Summary:

The fight against COVID-19 pandemic caused a shortage of both health workers and medical supplies in the Philippines. Since early March this year, frontliners have been working doubly hard to respond to the ongoing health crisis. Furthermore the community quarantine put a temporary stop to the production of goods and delivery of services causing health care facilities to be left with limited supplies. In effort to fight against the pandemic and respond to the great demand of health care facilities for supplies, some factories and manufacturing companies took the initiative to aid in the production of medical supplies through transitioning to the production of medical goods and equipment and moving away from their usual production line.

The Healthcare and Wellness Committee (HCW) and Manufacturing Committees of AmCham will host a webinar entitled "Updates and Best Practices in Medical Supply Logistics During the Pandemic" on July 9, 2020 (Thursday), 2-3 PM via Zoom, to discuss the experiences and best practices of health care institutions in response to COVID-19, particularly on the issue of growing demand for medical supplies. It will also tackle the shift and repurposing of factories for the production of medical supplies and a discussion on the imperative role of FDA in safeguarding public health through its regulations and enforcement of safety standards. Finally, the webinar will discuss how all these factors have impacted the state of pandemic response in the Philippines.

The webinar will discuss the following:

  • Challenges of health care institutions in responding to COVID-19.
  • Best practices of health care institutions, particularly managing demand for medical supplies.
  • Repurposing of factories in industries to the production of medical supplies.
  • Short term and long term outlook of manufacturing industry.
  • Requirements and procedures (i.e. LTOs, authorizations, certifications) to shift towards the production of medical supplies.
